minutes away from weather and traffic. >> here we go on friday and on a holiday weekend nonetheless. labor day weekend, we have fantastic weather ahead of us. yesterday we did hit 90 degrees. it was hot and steamy, right now 78. after our heat wave lasting five days around here relief is coming through as we speak. there's a front approaching the area and will be passing through this morning. that brings much cooler temperatures today. 77 at great neck and massapequa. on the island our temperatures are in the low 70s. we will see cooler air coming in and you'll feel the refreshing air mass as early as mid-morning to about noon and that keeps our temperatures cooler. wouldn't be surprised if we squeeze out a spotty shower as this front comes through. definitely not any big rains to slow things down. high of 83. more clouds and sunshine. the sun is back tomorrow. i'll have the accuweather seven- day forecast in a few minutes.
right now we have the latest on this morning's drive, commute or get away. >> let's go with getaway. if you are planning to use a train to get away this morning or this afternoon there will be extra service long island railroad, new jersey transit starting around 1 p.m. 1:40 for long island railroad, 1:30 for metro transit. g trains you have that track work. service suspended between hoyt street and church avenue. if you're going to the george washington bridge, the upper level had serious construction, major delays. let's take a look at the george washington bridge. you can see everything is moving without any major problems. in effect. and breaking overnight, a man is rushed to the hospital following a shootout with police in brooklyn. morning. the officers have responded to reports of another shooting. eyewitness news reporter dray latest. >> reporter: good morning ken and lori. we're still working to sort out the details.
just down the block behind me at jefferson and bushwick is where police exchanged gunfire with the suspect. that suspect was shot and rushed to the hospital. no officers were injured, but take a look at this picture here. it shows you just how close shot. that's a bullet hole on the driver side of an unmarked police car. now initially police were responding to a shooting on madison street here in bushwick where a man had been shot in the arm. officers caught up with the shooter at bushwick and jefferson avenues. the officers and suspects exchanged gunfire, and that suspect was hit in the leg. he was rushed to wings county hospital where he's now listed in stable condition. police tell us they did recover a gun at the scene. it's an automatic weapon. now back here live on bushwick you can see a number of detectives and crime scene investigators gathered here in the middle of the street. they're still in the process of going over the area and collecting as much evidence as they can.
the officers involved with the shooting we understand are from the 83rd precinct. again, they were not hurt, but they were taken to the hospital as a precaution just to be looked over. again, one suspect shot and exchange of gunfire with the police earlier this morning. live in bushwick brooklyn dray clark channel 7 eyewitness news. >> it is 4:34 right now. federal investigators are going to be in new jersey on the scene of a plane crash that left two coast guard volunteers badly hurt. police are saying the pilot is what kept that crash from becoming a total tragedy. the pilot was able to put down that cessna in a line of trees around 5 last night avoiding a large soccer field that at the time was loaded with children. >> he had all this area to land, and he stayed as far to the edge of the field as he did. >> he saved people. >> he saved lives. >> the two men on board that
plane were taking a survey of the hudson river when the pilot radioed air traffic control saying the plane's engine had failed. he tried to make it to teterboro. he could not. both men in the hospital, serious injuries but they are expected to survive. 4:35. new information this morning after something other than players raised racket at the u.s. open. a high school science teacher in the new york city public school system under arrest, 26- year-old daniel durley is charged with piloting a drone that crashed into the stands during a women's second round match. the aircraft did not hit the spectators. two former new jersey day care workers are due in court. they provoked shoving matches between kids at the light bridge academy in cran ford. then they videotaped them and posted the fights online.
the kids were as young as 4. newly released video shows a woman fighting back as she's surrounded by three attackers in brooklyn. the 23-year-old victim was pulled to the ground sunday night in greenpoint when another woman grabbed her purse after a man appears to throw a punch at her. she gets up and tries to fight them off. the suspects made off with her cell phone. she escaped the scuffle with a few minor scrapes. turmoil on the turf in new jersey. this weekend the rutger's football team will kick off the regular season without five of its players now arrested, one of them accused of two home invasions. four of the players were charged with assault for a fight that left a fellow student with a broken jaw. five other people including two former players were also charged in the crime spree. time is 4:36. four people were rescued after a pier collapsed in new jersey. news copter 7 hovered over the
scene in perth amboy as rescuers put a woman and child on a boat. portions of the pier fell into the water behind them leaving them stranded. they had trespassed on to the very old pier which was closed. same-sex couples in kentucky with now get marriage licenses in a county where none were being issued for the last three months. that's after the clerk who took a stand for her religious beliefs was sent to jail. kim davis is refusing to resign from her job as the county clerk, and until she does she's going to remain in jail in contempt of court. a judge ordered davis to issue marriage licenses after same- sex marriage was legalized by the supreme court in june. she chose to spend time in jail rather than do something that she says goes against her religious beliefs. >> and the laws of the land are to issue marriage licenses to same-sex marriage couples and have marriage equality. >> i support kim davis.
i think you're god's people rise up like they never have before. >> davis stopped issuing marriage licenses after the supreme court's ruling. all but one of her deputies say they will now be issuing licenses to all couples. the lone holdout is davis' son who works for her. it's 4:38. you're never more than 7 minutes away from weather and traffic. meteorologist amy freeze in for bill with the accuweather forecast. >> good morning to the both of you, ken and lori. we're starting off with cloudy skies and 78 degrees, but a us. there is a cold front coming through, and yesterday's 93 degrees were pretty spectacular humidity at its max. we had five days in a row in the 90s, but today things cool off pretty nicely. 10 degrees cooler this afternoon in the city with temperatures in the low 80s. take a look at these numbers for saturday, sunday, and monday, the catskills, hamptons and jersey shore looking really good.
temperatures will be in the upper 70s and low 80s pretty much across the board. 83 here in the city. now there could be an early shower but it's spotty at best, lots of clouds through the afternoon. a little muggy and 83. tomorrow is perfection. temperatures will be around 80 here in the city. i'll tell you when we're back to the 90s in the accuweather seven-day forecast coming up in just a few minutes. heather o'rourke with a look at the holiday get away traffic. a lot of people are excited to get going. >> lori was trying to get going on the george washington bridge this morning, and there was all of this construction going on. let's look at the george washington bridge. left to right that's the inbound side upper level doing fine, lower level no major problems. outbound side you're moving okay. they haven't completely cleared the construction yet but know it's looking better than it was at 2:45 this morning. let's talk about the get away this afternoon, long island railroad, new jersey transit will be providing extra service after 1 p.m. and metro north at this point on or close to schedule.

that are still kind of warm and muggy for overnight lows. mid to upper 70s in a lot of spots. the front is approaching promising relief for this afternoon. 78 degrees in central park. humidity 64%. now on september 4th our normal high is 80 degrees. we're going to be a little above that by a degree or two. the record is 99. we could actually be in record territory going into the holiday itself. we'll talk about that sunrise at 7:24 this morning. low temperatures, mid to upper 60s to the north. upper 70s are the lows this morning. what we have coming in today is a back door cold front. instead of the weather coming in from the west, we're actually going to see a shift in the winds coming in from the north and the east. that will slide into town and that will bring our temperatures down. there is some cloud coverage early on, and we won't rule out the chance of a spotty shower. everybody's doing their get away.
northwest new jersey will get the best chance for it by midday and early afternoon. you see the energy sliding across the map from east to west. that's that back door cold front. then it's game on. saturday looks good, lots of sunshine. temperatures around 80 degrees in the city. 70s for the beach locations and beautiful weekend forecast. we do warm things up again by sunday and monday. here's two cool days in a row. 83 degrees for today. refreshing air mass coming in from the north and tomorrow is back to beautiful. lots of sunshine, 80, can't get more perfect than this this time of year. labor day weekend forecast, catskills, hamptons and jersey shore. you can see temperatures will be pretty favorable and comfortable all weekend long. whatever your plans are, go ahead. rip current risk is high. a reminder to swim on the beach where there's a lifeguard. check in if it's an unfamiliar beach. cooler by 10 degrees. tonight it's 65 for the overnight low and the accuweather seven-day forecast
shows once we get past tomorrow, temperatures are back into the 80s. the humidity is not that bad on monday. we're back to 90. but it won't be until tuesday that we have the extreme muggy conditions that make it uncomfortable. we make it through the holiday with nearly perfect weather, then it's back to school for the kids looking hot and sticky. >> it's only a couple of days. >> they'll be fine. >> thanks amy. >> how are things looking with the commute? >> we do have a truck fire and it's on the new jersey turnpike. it's in the truck lanes going on to the northbound side. it's right near exit 8a. you can expect a buildup as you go through there. long island railroad will have extra service at around 1:40 this afternoon. you have metro north running on or close and new jersey transit will have extra service at 1 p.m. the f and m trains downtown. 36th street to 47th, 50th, that's all because of track work that's going. we still have construction
leftover at our hudson river crossings. staten island expressway, forest avenue to victory boulevard that ongoing construction they've been doing it all week long. our street cleaning rules are in effect. it's 4:47. in california sacramento city college will reopen this morning one day after a lone gunman killed a student and wounded two others. police shut down the campus and searched for the shooter but he escaped on foot. the bloody scene on the school's baseball field started out as an argument, escalated to a fistfight but then took a deadly turn when the suspect took out a semiautomatic handgun. >> they pronounced one male victim diseased, a secondary male adult victim was transported to a hospital. he was shot multiple times, and then we have a third victim that sustained one graze. >> police don't know if the gunman was also a student. they have not been able to identify him.
the parents of the virginia reporter shot and killed on live tv are speaking out in favor of new gun control laws. it's been a little more than a week since alison parker and adam ward were gunned down in roanoke. parker's parents are joining virginia lawmakers in support for a bill. >> if you have children, can you look your child in the eye and say we are willing to allow you to be collateral damage in order to keep what some people perceive as their constitutional right. >> those opposing the new measure say many people who own guns do get background checks and say the problem isn't the guns but those who use them to carry out mass shootings. the american airman who was injured when he and childhood friends tackled gunmen has finally returned home to california. spencer stone arrived during the night at travis air force base near sacramento. he was greeted by hundreds of
people who cheered and waved small american flags. stone has a bandaged hand and is being evaluated at a base hospital. mr. stone and his friends will be honored with a parade in sacramento next week. there are conflicting reports this morning out of st. louis after a 16-year-old boy is shot to death at the home of an 11-year-old boy. >> police say the older boy was one of two suspects in a home invasion. investigators say confronted by the 11-year-old who was home alone with his 4- year-old sister. >> once the third time came around that the suspects, two suspects attempted to enter the home, the 11-year-old who was inside picked up a handgun and fired one round. >> however, neighbors say the younger boy had been arguing with the teen and shot him in the head. 4:49. coming up on eyewitness news this morning, a family is desperate for answers this morning after they say pesticides poisoned their son, a warning to parents coming up.
dealers thank you for helping protect our children. 4:52, britain will be filled with celebrations next week when queen elizabeth overtakes her great, great grandmother queen victoria to become the country's longest reigning monarch. commentators say the monarchy appears close to a peak in its popularity. it has been helped of course by high approval ratings for prince william, his wife kate and the queen herself. and from britain's queen to american pharaoh, the triple crown winner will ride again, the owner who is leaning towards retiring the colt after last week's lost, everybody loses sometimes, then came his sweep yesterday. i have decided to continue american pharaoh. the champ deserves another chance want he's aiming towards next month's $5 million breeders cup classic. >> american pharaoh had a discussion with him. i want to run again. okay.
>> the discussion was see that glue factory over there pharaoh. sorry. >> must like the bank account. 4:54. you're never more than 7 minutes away from weather and traffic, meteorologist amy freeze. >> let that horse retire in kentucky and live it up. good morning everybody. we're starting off with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s it's still kind of muggy out there as the front arrives. it's moving in from the northeast and it's going to take our temperatures down as much as 10 degrees. we hit 93 yesterday afternoon. the accuweather seven-day forecast puts us at 83 this afternoon. spotty shower can't be ruled out. sunny and dry tomorrow, 80 degrees, and very nice and warm on sunday afternoon, 86. it's 90 on labor day itself. so the hot and humid weather, the sticky weather of summer is still going to be around, even though this unofficial start is underway already. good morning to you heather o'rourke. how's the drive and ride looking? >> we have a tricky spot for
you. if you normally use the new jersey turnpike it's on the northbound side 8a in the truck lanes. we have a truck fire. it is about 5:00 in the morning, and if this happens at about 2:00 in the afternoon this is going to be a big deal but at this point no major delays as you head into that spot. then we have staten island construction, eastbound forest avenue to victory boulevard, westbound bradley avenue into richmond avenue and we have alternate side of the street parking rules in effect for today. thank you. in brooklyn this morning five people including three children are recovering from injuries they suffered in a suspicious fire. we brought this story as breaking news yesterday morning. fire broke out on glenwood road in flag bush and engulfed two homes. it took two hours to put out the flames. fire commissioner says he is looking into whether the fire is part of a string of arsons in the neighborhood. >> we've been told there was a
similar fire somewhere in the neighborhood. >> everything was new, and they just had a baby. >> all of the victims were rushed to kings county hospital. officials say it's not clear where the fire began or exactly what sparked it. thousands of people including the texas governor will attend this morning's funeral near houston for murdered deputy darren goforth. he was shot 15 times and died at a gas station as he refueled his cruiser. the houston area had been covered with blue ribbons in goforth's memory. his funeral will include a 21 gun salute, a riderless horse and a flyover by police helicopters. a florida family is fighting to find answers after they say their young son was poisoned by pesticides. >> he spent his 10th birthday yesterday in the hospital suffering from brain damage.
his family's home was fumigated last month. relatives say terminex which contracted out the work gave them the okay to return. but things went horribly wrong that same night. >> he couldn't stand up. he couldn't speak so they took him to a local walk in, and the doctor quickly recognized it was probably a poisoning from the treatment. >> payden's family says terminex has not revealed what chemicals were used. we're closing in on 5:00, and following breaking news right now, police investigating a shooting in brooklyn, winding up in a shootout with the suspect. bullets hitting an unmarked police car. we're out at the scene investigating. >> travelers are ready to hit the road again ahead of the last holiday weekend of the summer. we're going to tell you gas

let's say that word again, friday. you are never more than 7 minutes away from weather and traffic. meteorologist amy freeze in for bill. >> a friday on a long holiday weekend. a pair of 7s, hey, bill evans, look at me. 77 degrees to start off this morning. we're waiting for a cold front to refresh us. it really is going to be a much different feeling kind of day. as far as the showers go, it's spotty at best, not looking for widespread rain, nothing really to slow you down. there are more clouds and sun as we get this day underway. once the front comes through, our temperatures could bounce into the low 80s. visibilities pretty good across the board. a 3-mile visibility, today is going to be clouds overhead. radar and satellite picture we'll watch. we're starting to see this front come in from the northeast. watch how the direction of the air flow changes and how the feel of the air changes as well. temperatures at 83 in the city for today.

eyewitness news reporter dray clark is live now in bushwick with an update for us. >> reporter: good morning lori. this was a very close call for the officers involved in the shooting. if you take a look behind me, that is where all the activity is happening. the shooting happened just down the block at the corner of jefferson and bushwick. luckily no officers injured in this exchange of gunfire. take a look at how close they came to being hit. this is a picture showing that unmarked police car and on the driver side of the vehicle, you can actually see that bullet initially police were responding to a call for a shooting on madison street here in bushwick around 1:30 this morning where a man had been shot in the arm. officers actually caught up with the suspect, the shooter at bushwick and jefferson. the officers and suspects exchanged gunfire and that suspect was hit in the leg. he is now in stable condition at kings county hospital. police also tell us they did recover a gun at the scene. it's an automatic weapon. back here live you can still
see a number of detectives here in the middle of bushwick avenue, again, in the process of trying to collect as much evidence as they can to make sense how all of this went down. the officers involved in the shooting are from the 83rd precinct. again, none of them were injured, but they were taken to the hospital as a precaution. the headline this morning, a suspect shot in the leg after an exchange with gunfire from officers from the 83rd precinct. we're live in bushwick brooklyn, dray clark channel 7 eyewitness news. thank you. it's 5:04. the funeral now set for a beloved illinois police officer duty. lieutenant charles joseph gliniewicz monday morning about 50 miles northwest of chicago. investigators say they now have what they believe to be a significant amount of video from the killing. police will only say it does show not one but three people. detectives are hunting for those three suspects. 5:04, and developing right now in manhattan, firefighters are on the scene after flames
shot through the roof of a building on the west side. the fire broke out on the 5th floor apartment on the building on west 45th street. the same building holds justin timberlake's barbecue restaurant. new york mayor ross baraka and other officials planned a city hall tribute for the officers involved in a dames carjacking -- dangerous carjacking case. tuesday's carjacking included several robberies, a the shooing, a car and pursuit. the officers made five arrests, a sixth carjacker was struck and killed by a police car. a federal judge has spoken in the deflategate case. the nfl has vowed to appeal the ruling that erased the four- game ban handed down to new brady.
brady was all smiles last night in foxboro massachusetts last night as he set out the pats preseason game against the giants. for his head coach it's business as usual. >> still got a long way to go on that. we don't even have a 53 man roster so i mean we're definitely working on pittsburgh. there's a lot of loose ends. >> the league says it will not seek an emergency stay while works on its appeal meaning brady can play in new england's opening game next thursday night against pittsburgh. 5:06 is our time, and there will be more opportunities for philadelphia residents to get a chance to see pope francis later this month. while the pope met with the president of israel at the vatican organizers were changing up plans for the pope's stop in philadelphia. that includes a parade and 30,000 tickets set aside to help give more people the chance to see the pontiff. this comes after the secret
service released a map of the ticketed area which the archdiocese of the philadelphia area gave the wrong impression of how far away nonticketed people would be. abc news go inside the vatican as david sits down with pope francis here on abc. it's 5:07, and travelers will spread out across the area today to take in a little bit last taste of summer, and gas prices may encourage more drivers to hit the road this labor day weekend. eyewitness news reporter rob nelson is live now along the new jersey turnpike in ridgefield. rob. >> reporter: good morning to you lori. happy labor day weekend everybody. of course it is the big holiday weekend. and that means one thing, people getting out of dodge this weekend for sure. those of you hitting the road by car we actually have great news for you. just a few hours from now at
about 7 a.m., the price of gas is going to drop $0.07 along the garden state parkway and the jersey turnpike. it will drop by $0.07 at 7 a.m. and those will be the lowest decade. a gallon of regular will cost about $2.20 a gallon. compared to labor day weekend last year that's a drop of more than a buck. a gallon. that 2 at any time 20 price starting in a few hours. that is just a snapshot of what the big travel weekend is going to look like. the port authority says it's going to serve more than 4 million travelers this labor day holiday. about 1.7 million of those will hit local airports and that is a 1% bump from last year. roughly 800,000 travelers at jfk, 470,000 at newark liberty
airport and 336,000 over at laguardia. meanwhile at port authority bridges and tunnels, officials are expects about 2.6 million vehicles to pass through during the holiday weekend. that 2.20 figure actually is an average of all of the gas prices statewide that they're going to use here on the turnpike and on the garden state parkway. that gives you a snapshot of what the gas prices will look like throughout jersey. that is good news for all of you heading to the beach. as always it will be crowded out there. build a little extra time no matter where you're going by car, train or bus or plane today. give yourself a few extra minutes. again, the lowest gas prices in a decade. not a bad start to the holiday weekend. reporting live in jersey, rob nelson channel 7 eyewitness news. you are never more than 7 minutes away from weather and traffic. meteorologist amy freeze in for bill. >> we're starting off with 77 degrees outside right now. it's a mix of a few clouds out
there and also still warm temperatures as a front approaches, and that front is promising to bring a real refreshing air mass to us. it's happening as we speak, and after five days in a row of 90 degrees or better, yesterday the hottest at 93 degrees really sounds pretty good, especially if you're trying to make an escape. visibility is decent, the lowest visibility is in central new jersey. radar and satellite looking good as the front comes into our area it's possible we could see a spotty shower. planning this day instead, temperatures in the upper 70s take us right through the noon hour and then a high today of 83 degrees. a little peek of sun could spark temperatures in the low 80s. really a refreshing air mass coming in. that's what a lot of people will be looking forward to. that's weather, here's heather. in the roads or in the train, whatever they're doing people want to get to a destination and enjoy it. >> they're going to get there in no time. it's going to take time, i should say, nowhere fast.

. 5:14. welcome back, this probably isn't what you think when you hear the words honolulu hawaii. a flash flood watch in effect for all of hawaiian islands for tonight. the state had to move homeless people to higher drier land. residents of phoenix arizona could use some of the water. a huge wall of dust moved through the city. the storm reduced visibility in some areas down to one quarter of a mile. it also prompted the national weather service to issue a blowing dust advisory. >> glad they didn't call it -- normally when meteorologist bill evans is here, he said don't call it a haboob. that's only in the middle east. meteorologist amy freeze what's

perfect weather tomorrow. really nice. 83 here in the city. 70s at the shore locations and the beaches. it becomes hot again on labor day. summer is not over, even though this is the unofficial end and we all have to get back to business and school. you can see the energy really pushing back from the northeast coming in here through the day, and then by later on this afternoon to this evening, nicely. temperatures will be in the 60s in the city for overnight lows and then tomorrow it looks great. temperatures are right on target for this time of year when you look at long-term averages. so 83 today. we're back to the normal range and then 80 tomorrow. it should be just beautiful and a great saturday is what we're expecting. the forecast northeast to easterly winds 12 to 25 miles an hour with waves up to 5 feet. a good surf today front. 78 degrees is the current water temperature and a high rip current risk the there's your weekend get away forecast. note that temperatures are

5:21, and police say the car that slammed into a wendy's restaurant in paramus new jersey was cut off by another vehicle. the car careened off route 4 and crashed into the restaurant. the drivers of both cars suffered minor injuries, but amazingly no one inside the wendy's was hurt. one of the drivers was ticketed for careless driving. 5:21, police in manhattan are trying to identify the man behind a violent attack on a bus. shorts release -- authorities released this picture of the
man who threw a metal garbage can at an mta bus. it happened in july but police are now asking the public's help in finding the attacker. the driver was not hurt. a dog who served our country overseas is being honored for his commitment to a fellow member of the military. >> but this work is being done right here on u.s. soil. retired marine captain jason hug says he was at his lowest point after returning from three tours in the middle east with ptsd and a traumatic brain injury. that's when axle entered his life, a retired service dog who gave hug the therapy he wasn't able to find anywhere else. >> axle absolutely knows he's helping me. the great thing about axle is he was two days away from being euthanized so he was saved too, and i think that's what makes our bond so great. >> now the two are working together to help other veterans. axle is up for the american

we have that ongoing construction. at least two lanes are closed down. it is jam packed as a result. new jersey turnpike car and truck lanes truck fire in the truck lanes. our street cleaning rules are in effect for today. ken over to you. thank you. at 5:32 we are following a breaking story in brooklyn where a shootout with police has left one man wounded. streets are blocked off right now all around bushwick avenue near jefferson. eyewitness news reporter dray clark live in bushwick with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. this section of bushwick avenue remains blocked off as detectives and crime scene investigators are still going over the area here collecting shell casings and other evidence to kind of make sense of what happened during that exchange of gunfire between police and that suspect earlier this morning. luckily no officers were injured. take a look at how close they came to being hit. this is the unmarked police car those officers were in earlier this morning, and you can see on the driver side of the car
that bullet hole right there in the passenger rear side. initially police were responding to a shooting call on madison street around 1:30 this morning where a man had been shot in the arm. officers caught up with the shooter involved in that shooting at bushwick and jefferson avenue. the officers and suspects exchanged gunfire. after that police say the suspect fired at them, and the suspect was then shot in the leg. that suspect was rushed to kings county hospital where he's now listed in stable condition. police say they did recover a gun at the scene. it's an automatic weapon. back here live now in this section of bushwick avenue and jefferson has been blocked off since that exchange of gunfire around 1:30 this morning. the only thing we can tell you about the officers involved is they are from the 83rd precinct and they were not hurt, although they were taken to the hospital as a precaution just to be looked over. for now we're live in bushwick brooklyn, dray clark channel 7 eyewitness news. >> thank you. 5:33. in california sacramento city college set to reopen this morning one day after a lone
gunman killed a student and wounded two others. police shut down the campus and searched for the shooter, but he escaped on foot. investigators say an argument along side the school's baseball field escalated to a fistfight. then took a deadly turn when the suspect drew a semiautomatic handgun. police don't know if the kill issue was also a student at the -- killer was also a student at the school. investigators will be in cress coe new jersey this morning. police say the pilot's skill helped keep this plane crash from becoming tragedy. the pilot was able to put the cessna 172 down in a line of trees behind cresco community center at about 5:00 last night avoiding a large soccer field filled with children. >> he had all this land and he stayed as far to the edge of the field as he did. >> he saved people down there. >> he saved lives.
>> the two men on board the plane were taking a survey of the hudson river when the pilot radioed air traffic control indicating the plane was having engine failure and trying to make it to teterboro airport. both men are in the hospital with serious injuries but are expected to survive. 5:35. new information this morning police make an arrest after something other than the tennis open. 26-year-old high school science teacher daniel verley is in crust i did. he was piloting the drone that crashed into the stands at louis armstrong stadium during the women's second round match. verley works in the city's public schools. he faces reckless endangerment and other charges. happening today, two former new jersey day care workers accused of creating a kids fight club are due in court. prosecutors say erica kenny and
chanase white provoked shoving matches between kids and videotaped them and posted the fights online. the children were as young as 4 years old. nobody was seriously hurt. for the first time vice president openly about a possible campaign. his uncertainties and emotions following his son's death. he says his decision depends on whether he and his fame have the emotional energy to run. >> unless i can go to my party and the american people and say that i'm automobile to devote my whole heart and my whole soul to this endeavor, it would not be appropriate. >> vice president biden told people in an atlanta synagogue that he can't look anyone straight in the eye and say now he knows for a fact that he can run. donald trump has signed a

we'll start to see that around 6:24. an impressive front that's coming through refreshing our air mass. it won't be until tomorrow that we see the sunshine. the temperatures will feel so much better. 77 degrees right now in central park. humidity 69%. we're going for the low 80s this afternoon. that takes 10 degrees off the temperatures that we had yesterday after all that heat, five days in a row of it. right now mid-70s for bridgeport, white plains at 73. 73 for belmar, and the heat index is still showing that temperatures are almost feeling like nearly 80 degrees. here we are at 5:45 in the morning. where's the relief. it's coming in the form of a cold front that will approach from the northeast. as it comes in our direction, it will keep more clouds in place. it's taking the temperatures down, eventually cuts the humidity. less than a mile visibility in morristown. our radar and satellite not much to see. as the front comes through could maybe bring up an isolated shower or thunderstorm.
very few and far between. right through 5:00 we only see a few patches of blue showing up here on the screen. definitely not a rainout of a day, a spotty shower at best. by tomorrow it's all sunshine and cooler temperatures. beautiful and 80 degrees expected. today's sort of the transition day. there will be more clouds around. temperatures will be in the low 80s, but you'll notice that flow of air bringing the refreshing feel in by as early as this afternoon, maybe about midday as the front slides through. that's that northerly wind that's going to be drier and more comfortable for us. northeast, easterly winds up to 25 miles per hour. it's the winds and waves that are bringing our rip current risk to the high category. make sure that you check in with the lifeguards, whatever beach you choose. water temperature's about 78 degrees. pretty inviting. as far as the labor day weekend get away forecast goes, the catskills, hamptons, jersey shore, a look at the temperatures, upper 70s low 80s looking like terrific weather over the weekend.
